The last day of the trip, a sleepless night at the hostel, bustling Vilnius, and the journey home.

First day’s impression from Tony Groover is HERE

The last day of the trip wasn’t as boring as the first, even though I got stuck in Alytus, but overall it was a good day, so let’s start from the beginning…

Yes, I didn’t sleep at the hostel again, and the night shift staff kept me company during my sleeplessness. I drank a lot of coffee again and was ready to stay up all night without sleep…

And the city was buzzing all night, and I visited a few of my favorite spots during “Culture Night,” even though it was raining and my legs were tired… from Vingrių Street through Vokiečių to Vilniaus and Cathedral Square—and there was certainly plenty to keep my legs busy….

and by 9 a.m. I was already at the bus station, and at 9:45 a.m. I took the express bus to Alytus, where I hung around until the 2:50 p.m. bus home to Veisiejai; though I didn’t fall asleep at the station, after a sleepless night I felt drained and exhausted…

And even though the trip was pretty boring, especially the first part, I feel satisfied and happy; I even saved the tickets from the trip for the head of the social services department, and I’m really glad they let me go…

The journey begins and it’s early morning

Today, at 10 a.m., my journey to Vilnius via Kaunas will begin, and I’m happy that I can finally leave the edge of my world behind and experience real big-city life…

Although I was hesitant until the last minute because of the weather, it’s still better to get away somewhere somehow than to keep sitting in this madhouse… “Culture Night” and the “Living Library” await me as a reader, and the night will be full of adventures anyway…

And, of course, Kaunas and a meeting with Ugnius M.—a person I’ve missed and haven’t seen in a long time… and a little café in the middle of the city, and we’ll see how things go from there.

I’ll be staying in Vilnius at the “Downtown” hostel, and I’ll be heading home on Saturday. As always, I’ll have to collect the tickets for the head of the social services department, but even though it’ll be boring, I’m ready for that tedious bus ride, because apparently it’ll be safer that way for them and for me…

I put my plans down on paper

Yesterday, I sketched out my travel itinerary with prices and stops so there wouldn’t be any surprises; I also called the hostel and made a reservation. Now I just need to wait for my paycheck and head toward my destination. The total cost of the trip, including lodging, is 35 euros, which is pretty cheap…

And I worried for nothing—even though THEY weren’t exactly eager to let me go, I got permission, and they brought up my past failed trips, but everything’s OK, and I’ll make sure nothing bad happens so I can set off again next time…
